The Origins of SnowFall Word Game

Why I Created SnowFall Word Game

I have always loved word games.

My wife and I have the habit of playing the crossword puzzle that arrives at our doorstep every Sunday in the Detroit Free Press.

In the New York Times Games app, I play the crosswords for Monday through Wednesday - and sometimes later days, but rarely completing them.

When I am travelling or feel the desire to do the NYT crossword with a pen feel, I download the PDF and put it on my Supernote digital pad. (If you have not checked out Supernote before, it is a cool device that I recommend).

Every morning, I do the Wordle of the day. Although, when you can only play once, I was left wanting more. The other NYT games are decent. But as I searched the app stores for other replacements or additional games to play, I was not finding anything that really excited me. Many seemed replications of the same game or idea. I wanted something unique and fun.

The idea of SnowFall started when my kids started getting into crossword puzzles that come in The Week Junior publication. These crosswords were more kid oriented. It took them some time to understand how the clues work, but soon got the hang of it. While we helped them with some of the clues, instead of giving them the answers or trying to push them towards the answer with more clues I started giving them a random letter. If they still struggled, I gave one more letter.

I started thinking what if there was a game that feed you one crossword clue at a time. You would only have a limited time to guess at the word. You could enter letters and get instant feedback. If you needed hints, random letters would be given.

While on a morning run, I started thinking about how fun this would be for adults too! I searched the app stores for any game like this. There were none. I figured that I would have to make one so I could play it. Alas, as I make all the clues, I know all the answers. Not as fun when you know all the answers. Ergo, once I made it, I figured I had to share it with others. This is where you come in! Thank you for playing and downloading my app! I really appreciate you giving your time and dedicating space on your device to enjoy the game and support the effort it took to bring it to you. Please share it with all your friends and family. Every download helps bring more attention to the game.
